Challenges to the Appropriate and Adequate Implementation of Environmental Protection Measures for the Achievement of a Healthy Environment in Cameroon

Cameroon faces significant environmental challenges, including deforestation, pollution, and climate change, which threaten the health and well-being of its citizens. Despite the existence of environmental laws and regulations, the implementation of environmental protection measures remains inadequate. This paper examines the challenges hindering the effective implementation of environmental protection measures in Cameroon. In a bit to realize the objective of this paper, the researcher makes use of the qualitative research methodology with unstructured interviews and observations as key methods. Hence, the ensuing results identifies weak institutional capacity, lack of enforcement, inadequate funding, and limited public awareness as major obstacles. The paper also highlights the impact of corruption, poor governance, and conflicting interests on environmental protection efforts. To address these challenges, the paper recommends strengthening institutional capacity, increasing public awareness and participation, and ensuring effective enforcement of environmental laws. Additionally, it suggests exploring innovative financing mechanisms and promoting sustainable development practices to achieve a healthy environment in Cameroon. The findings of this paper have implications for policymakers, environmental stakeholders, and the general public, emphasizing the need for collective action to protect Cameroon’s environment and promote sustainable development.
